The Summer Slowdown: Why Rest Seasons Matter in Real Estate and in Life
Written by Gillian Gooch • July 10, 2025
"To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven."
— Ecclesiastes 3:1
In both life and real estate, we often feel the pressure to keep moving—to make the next decision, close the next deal, or get to the next milestone. But what if some of the most important work happens when it feels like nothing is happening?
Right now, we're in the heart of summer. For many families, it's vacation season. For others, it's a time to catch their breath after a busy spring. And in real estate, July often brings what I call the summer slowdown—a natural pause between the rush of spring listings and the back-to-school energy of August.
It’s in these slower seasons that we’re reminded: rest isn’t the absence of work—it’s preparation for what’s to come.
The Blessing of Stillness
God didn’t design us to be constantly in motion. Even in Scripture, we see Jesus withdrawing to quiet places, taking time to pray, reflect, and be renewed. If He needed rest, how much more do we?
Slower seasons can feel unsettling, especially in a culture that equates “busy” with “successful.” But I’ve learned that there’s wisdom in the waiting—and that God often does His most transformative work when we slow down enough to listen.
In real estate, that may mean sitting still when homes aren’t selling overnight, or trusting the process when you're waiting for just the right house to hit the market.
What Can You Do in a Slow Season?
Whether you're buying, selling, or just planning ahead, there’s value in taking this season to:
-Review your finances and talk to a lender
-Declutter and make small home improvements
-Revisit your goals for the next 6–12 months
-Reflect on what truly matters in your next move
-Reach out for a conversation—even if you're not ready to move tomorrow
Just like the soil needs rest before the next planting season, sometimes we need margin in our lives to hear clearly and move wisely.
A Note from Me to You
I use this quieter season to prepare for the busy months ahead—updating resources for clients, reviewing market trends, and taking time with my family (and yes, sometimes even sneaking away to the beach or mountains!).
I also take time to pray for the clients I’m working with now—and the ones I haven’t met yet. If you’re in a season of “not yet,” know that you're not alone. God sees you, and your journey is unfolding in His perfect time.
If you ever want to talk about what comes next—whether it's a home search or a quiet conversation over coffee—I'm here.
