Legacy in the Making: Moving My Daughter into UGA

Written by Gillian Gooch • August 7, 2025

Tomorrow, I’ll do something that so many parents both look forward to and quietly dread — I’ll help move my daughter Chloe into her college dorm at the University of Georgia.

And while I've been preparing for this moment all summer (and really, for the past 18 years), nothing quite readies you for the flood of emotions that come when you're packing up your baby girl’s things to send her off into a brand-new chapter.

What makes it even more special is that Chloe isn’t just going to college — she’s going to my college. The University of Georgia isn’t just her next step; it’s also a return to a place that helped shape who I am today. As an alumna, I walk those red and black-lined sidewalks with a full heart, knowing she’ll make memories in the same places I once did. Sanford Stadium. North Campus. Tate. The dining halls and the dorms. It all feels like home — and now it’s hers too.

As a Realtor®, moments like this remind me how powerful a sense of home really is. Whether it’s a first dorm room or a forever home, the spaces we live in shape our stories. They hold the laughter, the tears, the lessons, and the legacy. Helping others find the right home — whether they’re starting a family, downsizing, or cheering their baby off to college — is more than just a transaction. It’s personal.

So tomorrow, I’ll show up with a smile, some storage bins, and maybe a few tissues. Because while this move is all about Chloe, it’s also another reminder of why I do what I do — helping families build their future, one home at a time.

Go Dawgs. 🐾❤️
