A Journey I Never Expected: What My Best of Georgia Nomination Means to Me

Sometimes life takes us in directions we never anticipated, and some of our proudest accomplishments come from the paths we never planned to take.

When I learned that I had been nominated for Best of Georgia, I was genuinely excited. Of course, being recognized for your work is always an honor, but this particular nomination means something different to me. It represents a chapter of my life that, years ago, I never would have imagined writing.

I never set out with the dream of becoming a businesswoman. Yet today, I find myself not only working in real estate but also serving as a broker and business owner. Looking back at the journey that brought me here makes this recognition especially meaningful.

From the Classroom to the Business World

For 18 years, my professional life revolved around education. I was a teacher, department chair, and coach, and I had the privilege of working with students and families while pursuing a career that I truly loved.

Throughout those years, I was fortunate to receive awards and recognition for my work in education. Those accomplishments meant a great deal to me because they reflected something I had dedicated so much of my life to doing well.

What I didn't know then was that another career, one that would challenge me in entirely different ways, was waiting ahead.

Transitioning into real estate meant learning a new industry, developing new skills, and discovering abilities I hadn't necessarily recognized in myself. Eventually, that journey led me to become a real estate broker and business owner.

I certainly didn't have that written into my original life plan!

And while I had experience in leadership, becoming responsible for a business brought an entirely different set of opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges.

That's part of what makes this Best of Georgia nomination so exciting. I've experienced the honor of receiving recognition in a profession I spent nearly two decades pursuing. Now, to be nominated for recognition in a career I never expected to enter, much less build a business around, is an accomplishment I'm incredibly proud of.

Different Careers, Similar Foundations

One thing I've come to appreciate is how much my years in education prepared me for real estate, even though I didn't realize it at the time.

Teaching required patience, organization, communication, leadership, and the ability to recognize that every student had different needs. Real estate requires many of those same qualities.

Every client brings a unique situation, different priorities, and personal circumstances that influence their decisions. Just as there was never a one-size-fits-all approach to helping students succeed, there isn't a single approach that works for every buyer or seller.

I still find myself educating people, answering questions, explaining complicated information, and helping them work toward important goals. The subject matter has certainly changed, but my commitment to helping others has not.

In many ways, I didn't leave behind everything I loved about teaching. I simply found a new way to use those experiences.

Building Something of My Own

Becoming a business owner has been one of the most unexpected and rewarding parts of this journey.

There's a difference between working in an industry and accepting the responsibility of building and leading a business within it. The decisions, challenges, and accountability take on an entirely new meaning.

As a broker, I'm responsible for maintaining professional standards, staying informed about an ever-changing industry, and ensuring that the people who place their trust in me receive knowledgeable, thoughtful representation.

It requires continuous learning, adaptability, and a willingness to make difficult decisions when necessary.

There have certainly been challenges along the way, but those experiences have also contributed to my growth, both personally and professionally.

Perhaps that's why this nomination means so much. It isn't simply recognition for selling real estate. To me, it represents the hard work, determination, and growth involved in building a business I never expected to own.

The People Behind the Recognition

Although this nomination is a personal milestone, I know that no business grows without the support and trust of others.

I've had the privilege of working with individuals and families through some of life's most exciting moments, as well as some of its most difficult transitions.

I've helped people prepare for new beginnings, make important financial decisions, and navigate the emotions that often accompany buying or selling a property.

These experiences continually remind me that real estate is about much more than contracts, properties, and closing dates. It's about people.

One of the greatest compliments I can receive is when someone trusts me enough to recommend my services to a friend or family member. That kind of confidence isn't something I take for granted.

I'm grateful for every client who has allowed me to be part of their journey, every person who has referred someone to me, and everyone who has encouraged and supported my business.

Those relationships are the foundation of everything I do.

A Recognition Worth Celebrating

Best of Georgia provides an opportunity to recognize businesses and professionals serving communities throughout our state, and I'm honored that Gillian Gooch Properties has been nominated.

Would I love to win? Absolutely!

But regardless of the final outcome, I'm proud of what this nomination represents.

I'm proud of the educator I was, the experiences that helped shape me, and the businesswoman I've become. I'm proud that I was willing to pursue a new direction, even when I couldn't have predicted where it would lead.

And perhaps most importantly, I'm grateful that both careers have given me opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Thank You for Being Part of My Journey

To everyone who has supported me throughout this unexpected chapter, thank you.

Whether you've been a client, referred someone to me, shared my business with others, or simply offered words of encouragement, you've played a part in making this journey so rewarding.

If you would like to support my Best of Georgia nomination, I would sincerely appreciate your vote. During the voting period, supporters can vote once each day.

As I reflect on this milestone, I'm reminded that we don't always know where life will take us. Sometimes the opportunities we never anticipated become the ones that teach us the most about ourselves.

And sometimes, the journey we never expected becomes one we're especially proud to celebrate.
